چکیده

Background: Menieres Disease (MD) is a chronic, non-life threatening inner ear disease, with attacks of disabling vertigo, progressive hearing loss, and tinnitus as the major symptoms. All three symptoms, separately or in combination, cause great distress have considerable impact on quality life patients. Objective: Aim this study was to find out whether subjective assessment objective will be significant towards diagnosis early disease by comparision between Dizziness Handicapped Inventory (DHI) & Pure tone audiometry. Materials Methods: This hospital-based retrospective carried at Al Ameen Medical College Hospital, Vijayapur, Karnataka, India. The population composed 93 subjects referred audiology department ENT Hospital 01 year period, May 2021 April 2022. underwent following diagnostic procedures: Collecting detailed clinical history, complete neuro-otological bedside examination pure-tone inclusion criteria are presence symptoms compatible MD (tinnitus, loss vertigo) associated documented unilateral sensorineural loss. exclusion are: incomplete presentation conductive, mixed retrocochlear presentation, characterized vertigo syndromes that not for features duration MD. Other tympanic perforations, active infections, inflammatory non-inflammatory stenosis (exostoses, osteomas). handicapped inventory utilized whereas audiometry disease. In DHI questionnaire, patient answered yes, sometimes no each question strength responses were designated numeric values 0, 2, 4. questionnaire had 25 items, such total score ranges from 0 100, higher indicating handicap. relevant data collected using pre-tested pro-forma after collection it entered Microsoft Excel maintain data. Result:In our study, Forty-five (48.4%) patients male, 48 (51.6%) female mean age 48.9±12.1 years. 5.6±4.7 (min: 10 months max: 14 years) years. The means 0.5-2 kHz air conduction thresholds (dB HL) Pathological Healthy 46.8±21.4 15.6±13.9, respectively. Speech discrimination scores (%) 71.5±23.6 93.7±6.3, Physical subscore, Emotional subscore Functional per Handicap among 15.93±8.91, 7.3±4.78 16.62±8.85, all items 38.8±19.5. Conclusion: There relationship pure some variables. As part follow-up tool MD, valid, reliable health-related, disease-specific QoL scale.

Pure Tone Audiometry

Pure tone audiometry is the standard behavioral assessment of an individual’s hearing. The results of pure tone audiometry are recorded on a chart or form called an audiogram. In most cases a pure tone audiogram is easy to obtain and provides information about peripheral hearing acuity across the frequencies used in speech. It allows for a quick view of how well, or how poorly, an individual ca...

Theory and practice of pure tone audiometry

Pure tone audiometry indicates what hearing thresholds (dB) are required to just be able to perceive a tone at different frequencies (Hz). A pure tone audiology threshold at a specific frequency is the decibel level at which a sound is perceived 50% of the time. The decibel scale used in pure tone audiometry is dB Hearing Level (dB HL). The dB HL intensity scale is based on normal human hearing...

Comparison between auditory steady-state responses and pure-tone audiometry.

BACKGROUND/AIM A more recent method, the auditory steady-state response (ASSR), has become more and more important test method due to difference that was found in previous investigations between hearing thresholds determined by the ASSR and the pure-tone audiometry (PTA). The aim of this study was to evaluate the reliability of the ASSR in determining the frequency specific hearing thresholds b...

Comparing pure-tone audiometry and auditory steady state response for the measurement of hearing loss.

OBJECTIVE To compare pure-tone audiometry and auditory steady state response (ASSR) to measure hearing loss based on the severity of hearing loss in frequencies. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING A total of 105 subjects (168 ears, 64 male and 41 female) were enrolled in this study. We determined hearing level by measurement of pure-tone audiometry and ASSR on the same day for each subject. RESULTS P...
